MEER OOR DIE KUNSTENAARS / ABOUT THE ARTISTS

MIROSLAV CHAKARYAN started violin lessons in Bulgaria at a very young age.  He came to what was then known as Bophutatswana in 1991 where he led the Chamber Orchestra.  In 1993 he joined the National Symphony Orchestra in Johannesburg and in 2001 he became concert master of the JPO – Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra.  In 2019 he was joint recipient of the Fiesta award for a Classical performance with Zanta Hofmeyr.

MIROSLAV CHAKARYAN het op ’n baie jong ouderdom met vioollesse in Bulgarye begin. Hy het in 1991 na die destydse Bophuthatswana gekom, waar hy die leier van die Kamerorkes was. Hy het in 1993 by die Nasionale simfonie-orkes in Johannesburg aangesluit en in 2001 is hy aangestel as konsertmeester van die JPO. In 2019 het hy, saam met Zanta Hofmeyr, ’n Fiesta toekenning gekry vir die beste Klassieke uitvoering.

SUSAN MOUTON started her cello training at a very young age in Durban.  She completed her BMus at the University of Pretoria in 1982 and then joined the SABC symphony orchestra in 1983 where she became principal cellist in 1987. In 2000 she became principal cellist of the JPO – Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2011 she forms part of the permanent ensemble of the singer, Jannie du Toit.

SUSAN MOUTON het reeds vroeg in haar lewe in Durban tjellolesse begin neem. Sy het in 1982 haar B.Mus by Tukkies klaargemaak, en het in 1983 by die SAUK simfonieorkes aangesluit. Sy is al in 1987 as die leier van die tjellos aangestel, en in 2000 het sy die leier van die tjellos by die JPO geword. Sedert 2011 tree sy dikwels op saam met Jannie du Toit in die meeste van sy verhoogproduksies.

OLIVE SANDILANDS spent her school years in Potchefstroom where she took piano lessons from Anna Raubenheimer and professor Hennie Coetzee as well as Adolph Hallis. She obtained her BMus (Hons) degree from the University of Pretoria and continued her music studies with professor Lamar Crowson at the College of Music in Cape Town. She has performed as an accompanist or chamber musician with various singers and instrumentalists, such as Zanta Hofmeyr, Leonard Heydenrych, tenor Johan Botha, Jeanne-Louise Moolman, Melané Hofmeyr-Burger, Miro Chakaryan, Susan Mouton, as well as the world renowned flautist, Susan Milan.

OLIVE SANDILANDS het haar skooljare in Potchefstroom deurgebring waar sy klavierlesse by professor Hennie Coetzee en Adolph Hallis geneem het.  Sy het haar BMus (Hons) aan die Universiteit van Pretoria verwerf en haar musiekstudies daarna onder professor Lamar Crowson aan die College of Music in Kaapstad voorgesit.  Sy het as begeleier opgetree vir kunstenaars soos oa Zanta Hofmeyr, Zanne Stapelberg, die tenoor Johan Botha, Miro Chakaryan, Susan Mouton asook die wêreldklas fluitspeler Susan Milan.  Sy bly die afgelope 20 jaar in Mosselbaai.
